biography:
Victor Cobo (b. 1971) is an American-born photographer of Spanish-descent living and working in New York and San Francisco. His works explore our evolving isolation through memory, dreams and the translucency of the psyche. Cobo is a self-taught photographer who was originally trained in painting and life-drawing. He grew up in northern California where his earliest memories of photography involved stealing his stepfather's cameras, playing dress up and creating theatrical images with teenage friends. Thus began his career as a Documentary Fine Art Photographer focusing on the margins of society.
Victor Cobo's solo exhibitions include "American Dreams" at Blue Sky Gallery, Portland, Oregon in 2007 and "American Dreams" at the Michel Novelozo Gallery, Davis, California in 2005. He has participated in numerous group shows such as the prestigious "First Look: Masters of American Photography" at the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, Texas and "Photo Forum: Recent Acquisitions" at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Texas. He was the winner of the Aaron Siskind Foundation Fellowship in 2007. Cobo's work has been featured and reviewed in American Suburb X, Foto8, Ojo De Pez, Private, Newsweek, TIME and the San Francisco Chronicle, among others.
